A Feasibility Study Report Plan has been presented to develop the Telephone Shilpa Sangstha (TSS) as a competent organization for the production of digital devices. As the only state-owned digital instrument manufacturing company, this study is being conducted with the aim of developing TSS as a profitable and more capable company in timely and accurate digital instrument manufacturing.
Mr. Mustafa Jabba, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, was present as the chief guest in the function organized on the occasion of the presentation of the feasibility study plan for the modernization of the physical infrastructure of TESIS, the establishment of a new digital device production and assembly plant and the increase of the production and assembly capacity of the existing plants at the auditorium of the Telecommunication Building in Dhaka today. Post and Telecommunication Secretary Abu Hena Morshed Zaman was present as a special guest on the occasion.
By improving the quality of production of Doel Laptops, Doel Desktops, Tabs and Retail Appliances, Digital PABX, Transmission Equipment, Biometrics Verifications Equipment, Smart Televisions and Digital Energy Meters currently manufactured by TSS, reducing the import dependency of these digital devices in the country by gaining customer confidence and, the aim of this survey is to make the organization useful in creating possible digital technologies of the future, including IoT robotics, AI, as well as to make the organization a more profitable organization.
In the event, the minister mentioned the importance of developing the telephone industry as an organization capable of producing digital devices suitable for smart Bangladesh.
He said, the journey of digital transformation of education has started. In continuation of this, instead of books, students should be given tablets or laptops. Hon’ble Prime Minister expressed her intention to strengthen TSS in 2015 Digital Bangladesh Task Force meeting to deliver laptops to students. We have started the work of fully preparing TSS to realize that goal. Turning TSS into a profitable enterprise is not the only goal, there is passion involved. I was the one who was asked to take charge of strengthening TSS. This is my passion.
Mr. Mustafa Jabbar, a pioneer in the development of digital technology in education, highlighted the need for digital technology in building a smart Bangladesh and said that despite having skilled manpower and necessary infrastructure, the telephone industry cannot be built reliably for the production and connection of digital devices.
The dual laptop manufactured by the telephone industry has already managed to create a place of trust. After Doel started its journey in 2011, it was not possible to take Doel to the place of customer trust due to various reasons including lack of quality. That is no longer the case. TSS overcame that weakness. He mentioned that thousands of Doel computers and laptops of high quality devices supplied in recent years to various government institutions including the ICT department are working uninterruptedly.
Highlighting his various observations on the survey plan, the Minister suggested clarifying the various technical surveys along with the existing obstacles and ways to remedy them in order to make TSS an exemplary state-owned profitable digital instrument manufacturing company. He directed to prepare the final draft within the shortest possible time by incorporating various technical issues including the views of the concerned stakeholders.
Posts and Telecommunications Secretary emphasized the need to include in the survey the proper market demand of digital devices produced by TSS, determination of the target group using the devices, what can be done to make the existing manpower useful and develop TSS as a modern digital device manufacturing company.
He said, reflection of the well-thought-out views of the concerned stakeholders will be helpful in making TSS a strong institution.
TSS Managing Director Md. Ahsan Habib Tapadar presided over the event, Post and Telecommunication Department Additional Secretary Md. Mahbub-ul Alam, Joint Secretary Md. Musleh Uddin and Deputy Secretary Fatematuz Zohra and related stakeholders shed light on various aspects of the draft report.
Directorate General of Telecommunications, Md. Rafiqul Islam, Managing Director of Submarine Cable Company Limited, Md. Azam Ali and representatives of various organizations under the Department of Posts and Telecommunications were also present.
