South Asia’s leading e-commerce company Daraz has announced layoffs like other top tech-giants in the world. The company has already begun the initial process of laying off 11 percent of its employees to cut costs. Reuters reported this news about Daraz.
Since last year, the world’s largest technology giants started laying off their employees. Several organizations including Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, Twitter, Google have laid off thousands of people to cut costs. For this, the institutions blamed the negative impact on the world economy due to the long-running Russia-Ukraine war along with the corona pandemic and lockdown.
This time, South Asia’s leading e-commerce marketplace Daraj also faced layoffs. The company has announced 11 percent layoffs worldwide.
Various international media reported this information about Jarke Mikkelsen, the chief executive officer of Daraz, on Monday. It is also reported that the process of retrenchment has already started.
Daraz said that 300 employees of the company may lose their jobs due to their decision.
Mikkelsen said, ‘Our biggest markets are Pakistan and Bangladesh. Apart from this, Daraz also operates in Sri Lanka and Nepal’.
