Architect, sports organizer, valiant freedom fighter Mubashhar Hussain is no more; He was 79 years old.
The former president of Bangladesh Institute of Architects and environmentalist and chief architect of Esoconsult Limited breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in Shyamoli of the capital on Sunday around 1.30 am.
It has been informed by the Bangladesh Institute of Architects that he was suffering from various diseases related to old age for a long time. He had multiple organ failure. At first, he was admitted to the capital’s private specialist hospital on November 9 with eye problems. There his previous heart problem recurred. Two days ago, the situation improved a little, but finally he crossed over to the land of no return. Before that he was first taken to ICU and later on life support.
Architect Mubashar Hussain graduated in Architecture from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. He was the Chief Architect of Assoconsult Limited. He had been serving as President of Commonwealth Association of Architects and Bangladesh Institute of Architects. He was also the President of Architects Regional Council, Asia (Arcasia). He was vocal on various issues including civic movement.
As an architect, Mubasshar Hussain’s construction works include Prashika Bhaban, Grameen Bank Bhawan and Chittagong Railway Station.
Mubasshar Hussain was a brave freedom fighter. In 1971, he directly participated in the Great War of Liberation, being an active member of the Crack platoon.
He was a former director of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and a former President of Brothers Union and the founding convener of Sammilita Krira Paribar.
The architect was vocal in environmental and civic movements. He was the convener of consumer rights organization Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) and a vice-president of the Central Committee of Bangladesh Environment Movement (BAPA).
Meanwhile, the mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Atiqul Islam has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of Mubasshar Hussain. In a condolence message, he prayed for the peace of the departed soul and extended his deepest sympathies and condolences to his bereaved family, close relatives and well-wishers.
National Committee for Redressal of Consumer Complaints (CAB) president Golam Rahman said in a condolence message that he was realistic about the sustainable development of Bangladesh and the decentralization of Dhaka city.
Mubasshar Hussain’s corpse is being taken to the premises of Bangladesh Institute of Architects in Agargaon of the capital to pay tribute from people of all walks of life. His funeral will be completed after Zohar prayer. As per last wish, his body will be donated to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital.
