The second Digital Polli (Digital Village) of the country is going to be set up at Damudya, an Upazila of Shariatpur district under the joint initiative of Ministry of Commerce and e-CAB. Nahim Razzak, MP, Shariatpur-3constituency inaugurated the Digital Commerce Village- Digital Polli at the Conference Room of Damudya Upazila Nirbahi Officer on Tuesday.
While speaking as the Chief Guest, Nahim Razzak said that after winning the 2008 national elections, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina established the Union Information Service Center for the implementation of the Digital Bangladesh outline. After that step by step she introduced standard digital implementation manual by training all the departments in the government which is being published through things like e-tender and e-documents. Connect everyone online. In 2015, she announced the transformation of the villages into a cities. Digital Polli is a real example of that. Through this, I believe that e-CAB’s Digital Polli will be able to change the socio-economic condition of Damudya by utilizing the fishery resources of this area.
The President of the Digital Polli Program Ibrahim Khalil welcomed everyone in the opening ceremony which was presided over by the Upazila Nirbahi Officer Hashiba Khan. Zahiduzzaman Saeed, Vice President of Digital Polli Program, outlined the action plan of how Damudya village will be transformed into a digital village with the power of e-commerce.
Shariatpur Deputy Commissioner Parvez Hasan and e-CAB General Secretary Mohammad Abdul Waheed Tamal also spoke on the occasion.
Tamal then said that e-CAB is working on the digital transformation of the traditional e-ommerce business by using digital power and the internet to eliminate the unequal status of ability proof in the society. By focusing on local materials or resources, we are working towards making it easy for village entrepreneurs and consumers to enjoy all the benefits of digital commerce. The main objective of the Digital Polli is to bring the benefits of digital commerce to the grassroots level, bridging the gap between rural and urban areas. And for this purpose, after Manikganj, Damudya Upazila of Shariatpur district will be converted into a digital village.
This program was anchored by Digital Polli Program Secretary General Mir Shahed Ali while Local Union Parishad Chairman Anisur Rahman Bachchu, Syed Abdul Hadi Zillu, Masudur Rahman Sheikh, Golam Mawla Ratan, Vice Chairman Abdur Rashid, Khadija Khanam Lucky, Finance Secretary Junaid Ahmed and ICT Business Promotion Council Assistant Executive Officer Md. Faisal Khan were present in the event.
It may be noted that, the Digital Commerce Village (Digital Polli) is an initiative under which multiple model villages will be created, where all the facilities of digital commerce will exist. Besides training 200 entrepreneurs under the project, 1 facilities center, 1 call center, delivery service, creation of marketplace, inclusion of digital payments, product catalog management services will be prepared. And thousands of digital commerce villages/ Digital Pollis will be built across the country in the shape of this model village.
