Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar called the students to prepare themselves for the fifth industrial revolution. The minister made this call while speaking as the Chief Guest at a workshop organized by ISPAB, an organization of Internet service providers, as part of creating awareness among students about ‘safe internet’.
Thousands of students of the university attended this workshop on Tuesday afternoon in the auditorium of the American International University, Bangladesh (AIUB) in Kurile of the capital.
Addressing the new generation including these students, Mustafa Jabbar, the founder of Bijoy Bangla Software, said that the education and knowledge you are growing up with now, you will have to go beyond this knowledge in the future. No matter what you read and write about, you will gain the ability to express yourself by using the digital devices around you and acquiring communication skills. Must have specialized knowledge. Instead of doing a job, you have to stand on your own courage. Otherwise you will be stuck in Gutenberg’s time instead of living in this era. And if one can grow up with programming skills in the country, there will be no dearth of jobs.
Commenting on the wonderful development of digital transformation in the country, the minister warned the students about the life ahead.
He also said that before announcing the Digital Bangladesh vision in 2008, after coming to power in 1996, he announced the need for 10,000 programmers a year. That is why he immediately increased the number of seats in computer science subjects in all possible universities including BUET and Dhaka University. As a result of this, 70 percent students of American International University, Bangladesh are studying computer science technology. Mobile and internet usage is increasing. 13 crore internet subscribers in the country are using 3840 Gbps bandwidth. But due to lack of awareness, there are increasing risks of fake friends, spam and hacking. Therefore, apart from avoiding any unknown friends or links, the minister suggested that internet or digital world should be safe if two-factor authentication is activated.
AIUB Vice-Chancellor Dr. Carmen Z Lamagna presided over the event as a special guest, ISPAB President Md. Imdadul Haque said to the students, “I was inspired by Mustafa Jabbar’s program at BTV while I was a student and came to the internet service world after studying computer science. I entered the service in 1996 and now I am an entrepreneur. Government or private institutions cannot provide jobs to everyone. One has to be entrepreneur through gaining skills.”
He also said, we first conducted an awareness program to teach internet through V-sat, now we are working to provide broadband service quality or good quality service through submarine cable. If students are interested in creating skilled manpower, we will conduct training program every two months. We have 2900 licensed ISPs but lack of skilled manpower. We are far behind in creating skilled manpower during covid-19. The ISPAB president expressed hope that we will be able to recruit skilled manpower through you.
While delivering his welcome speech at the workshop, the ISPAB General Secretary Nazmul Karim Bhunya expressed his assurance to keep such workshops on for creating awareness among students as well as keeping them safe.
The dean of Engineering Faculty of AIUB Professor Dr. ABM Siddique Hussain; Iqbal Bahar Zahid, Founder President of Nijer Bolar Moto Ekta Golpo and ISPAB Director Sakif Ahmed also spoke in the workshop.
