The TIB-RUETDC Inter-University Debate Competition 2022 concluded with the determination to stop corruption with the power of youth. Rajshahi University Debating Forum (RUDF) won the competition. RUDF defeated Jahangirnagar University Debate Organization (JUDO) in the final. Surya Das of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) was the best debater of the competition and Shahriar M Fahim was the best debater of the final.
At the closing ceremony, the acting vice chancellor of RUET Dr. Md. Sajjad Hossain, Director of student welfare Dr. Md Rabiul Awal and TIB Outreach and Communication Director Sheikh Manzoor-e-Alam handed over the prizes to the winners. The closing ceremony was presided over by Mohammad Haroon Or Rasheed, Moderator of RUET Debating Club (RUETDC).
Acting Vice-Chancellor of Ruet Dr. Md. Sajjad Hossain said, ‘The debaters use their sober intellect to declare a rational position against various inconsistencies in the society. If young debaters speak out against corruption, it will bring good to all. I believe these young debaters will stay away from corruption themselves and play an active role in preventing the corruption of others.’
Director of Outreach and Communication Department of TIB, Sheikh Manzoor-e-Alam said, ‘Young debaters have always played a leading role as one of the partners of TIB in the social movement against corruption. The clear understanding of corruption, good governance, logical analysis, anti-corruption attitude of the participants in this competition will inspire us for the anti-corruption movement of the future.
It is to be noted that 32 teams from 30 universities of 13 districts including Dhaka, Jahangirnagar, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna and Barisal universities and BUET, RUET, CUET, KUET participated in the TIB-RUETDC inter-university debate competition. The champion and runner-up teams were awarded Tk 25,000 and Tk 15,000 respectively, along with crests, trophies and certificates.
