The closing and prize distribution ceremony of the 5th Bangladesh Robot Olympiad ended on Wednesday, October 26 at the Teacher-Student Center (TSC) of Dhaka University. Honorable Deputy Minister of Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury was present as the Chief Guest in the closing ceremony of this two-day robotics Olympiad to explore the talents of children and adolescents.
A total of 1024 students from 64 districts of the country aged 7-18 participated in this competition. This year, national level Olympiad was held in total 5 categories in two groups, Junior and Challenge. These are – Robot Gathering, Robots in Movies, Physical Computing, Creative Category and Robotics Quiz.
Deputy Minister of Education Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury, who was present as the chief guest at the event, said that under the instructions of the Honorable Prime Minister, the issue of developing children’s hidden latent, thinking ability and reducing the pressure of exams has to be introduced in the new curriculum. The implementation process has already been started. Initially, the process will start from sixth grade. Apart from our efforts, parents and teachers should also come forward in this regard.
Director General of Information and Communication Technology Directorate Md. Mustafa Kamal presided over the event. Senior Secretary of Information and Communication Technology Division NM Ziaul Alam spoke in the program as a special guest. Lafifa Jamal, President of Bangladesh Robot Olympiad, delivered a welcome speech. Senjuti Rahman, Chairperson of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering Department of Dhaka University also expressed her feelings. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal and Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury handed over the prizes to the winners of the 5th Robot Olympiad at the end of the discussion.
This year, William Carey Academy student Jaima Jahin Wara and Navy Anchorage School and College student Mahrooz Mohammad Ayman won gold medals in the junior group of the creative category in the national stage of the 5th Bangladesh Robot Olympiad. In the same group, students of BAF Shaheen English Medium School, Mahdin Malik and Mehtaz Uddin Ahmed, won silver medals and Shabnam Khan, a student of Motijheel Ideal School and College, won bronze.
Chittagong Grammar School-Dhaka student Tafseer Tahreem, Jalalabad Cantonment English School and College student Rafihat Saleh and Mirzapur Cadet College student Mahir Tajwar won the gold medal in the creative category challenge group, Chittagong Cantonment Public College students Abrar Shahid, Safwan Bin Hossain and Rayem Omayer Saeed won the silver medal. And bronze medals were bagged by Chittagong Grammar School-Dhaka student Kazi Mustahid Labib, Sunbeams student Nasheetat Zainah Rahman and YWCA Higher Secondary Girls School student Nusaiba Tazreen Tanisha.
Shabnam Khan, a student of Motijheel Ideal School and College, won the bronze medal in the junior group of Robot in Movie.
Arefin Anwar, a student of Government Boys High School, Dhanmondi, and Ragib Yasar Rahman, a student of Dhaka Residential Model College, won the gold medal in the Robot in Movie challenge group; Samia Mehnaz and Maisha Sobhan, students of Viquarunnisa Noon School and College, won the silver medal and Sadia Anjum Pushp, a student of Rajshahi College, and Bhangura Public School student BM Hamim won the bronze medal.
Udayan Higher Secondary School student Omar Karim bagged the silver medal in the Physical Computing category challenge group and South Point School student Marzia Afifa Prithibi bagged the bronze medal.
In Junior Group of Robotics Quiz Samin Mustaqeem student of Barisal Zilla School won silver medal, Abdullah Al Minhaj student of Model Academy won silver medal and Mahir Faisal student of Lohagara Govt. Pilot High School, Rudaiba Tarannum student of YWCA Higher Secondary Girls School, Cumilla Zilla School student Mohammad Saif Al Fahad and BAF Shaheen College Dhaka student Namir Mohammad Wadi Ahsan won bronze medal.
Zaheer Uddin High School student Mohammad Safayet Ullah Shanto bagged gold medal in Robotics Quiz Challenge group, Mirzapur Cadet College student Moeed Hasan Ahan and Green Field International School and College students Jumaria Al Ruhan and Mohammad Rafeed Raihan bagged silver medal and Singra Damdma Pilot High School and College students Rakesh Saha and Zakaria Sajid, Chittagong Cantonment Public College student Toaha Jobair and Holy Cross Girls High School student Tasneem Masood bagged bronze medal.
It should be noted that the as a part of organizing this Olympiad, Robot Olympiad is being organized in Bangladesh since 2018.
This year, the activation ceremony of the Olympiad was held at the Sheikh Russell School of Future Lab located in 300 parliamentary constituencies across the country. A day-long robotics training workshop was held in 10 Sheikh Russell School of Future labs of 8 Divisions.
The students selected from among the winners in the national phase and then through hands-on training and team selection camp will represent Bangladesh in the 24th International Robot Olympiad in Phuket, Thailand.
