In the post office digitization journey, senders and customers can track the latest location or delivery information of postal items. In the continuation of the post office digitization process, by scanning the barcode attached to the postal item through the points of sales machine, the customers can easily identify the location of their postal item by scanning the barcode and completing the booking by attaching the photo of the address of the sender with the necessary information input. Also, digital serial system has been introduced in important post offices including Dhaka GPO for the convenience of customers.
On Thursday, Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar had a surprise visit to Dhaka GPO. During his visit, he spoke to customers and sought feedback from customers. At this time the customers expressed their satisfaction. During the visit, the Minister visited various branches of the GPO. Additional Director General of Postal Department Harun Ur Rashid along with related officials accompanied him.
The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications said in reply to various queries of the customers regarding the post office digitization, “The days of post office are not over, rather they are increasing.” He said, “The post office has now become a reliable institution for digital commerce.”
He said, under the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we are creating a road design for post office digitization to establish a postal system suitable for the digital age. It will be implemented soon. Already 14 sorting centers are being constructed and digitized. At the same time, we have taken the initiative to introduce chilling vans in chilling rail coaches and other postal vehicles. Apart from digitizing the postal system, we have started digitizing the post office by imparting digital skills to the 45,000 employees. As a result, the basis of digitization of production-oriented activities has been created. With the implementation of this master plan prepared by the officials of the postal department along with the related experts, the postal service will soon be raised to the desired level. Mr. Mustafa Jabbar, the pioneer of digital technology development, mentioned the importance of digitizing the post office as a supporting institution for digital trade, the minister said. Our big challenge was to bring the struggling postal service to a better position as the age of letter writing ended. We have already achieved that. Pointing out that, there is no other organization in the country with the massive infrastructure and manpower of the post office nationwide, the minister said, starting from frozen food, the post office has no alternative to deliver the goods to remote and inaccessible areas or bring their products to the customers. The minister highlighted the contribution of the postal service in delivering the medical equipment, starting from the transport of farmers’ fruits and vegetables during the pandemic. The Minister directed to strengthen the supervision of concerned parties to ensure customer service and cleanliness of GPOs. From frozen food to daily essentials, there is no substitute for post offices to deliver or bring their products to customers in remote and inaccessible areas. The minister highlighted the contribution of the postal service in delivering the medical equipment, starting from the transport of farmers’ fruits and vegetables during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Minister directed to strengthen the supervision of concerned parties to ensure customer service and cleanliness of GPOs.
Later the Minister visited the Administrative Wing, Bangabandhu Corner and Philatelic Bureau established at Dhaka GPO. He also directed to repair the building and furniture of GPO.
