The Directorate of Consumer Rights fined Shohoz.com Tk. 2 lakh for ticket manipulation. On Wednesday (July 20) in the meeting room of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, the student of Dhaka University (DU) said about the mismanagement of the railway sector. The fine was imposed after the hearing of Mohiuddin Hawladar Roni’s complaint. 25 percent of this fine will be received by the victim Rony.
At this time around 10 am representative of Shohoz.com and complainant Mohiuddin Roni was present at the head office of the Directorate. As Roni’s complaint was found to be true, Shohoz.com was fined under Section 53 of the Consumer Rights Act 2009.
Mohiuddin Hawladar Roni had complained to the Directorate of Consumer Affairs about irregularities against Shohoz.com and the Railway Department. According to his complaint, on June 13, he tried to register the train seat of the Dhaka-Rajshahi route from the website of Bangladesh Railway. But the money was deducted from his account without pin code with verification code from financial services company bKash on mobile phone. But did not get any seat in the train, not even a receipt was given as to why the money was taken. Roni has already filed two complaints with the Directorate of Consumer Affairs regarding corruption and irregularities in the railways.
Apart from complaining to the authorities in this regard, this fourth-year student of DU’s theater and performance studies department had been staying at Kamlapur railway station for 11 consecutive days.
This student had been staying at Kamlapur railway station with his hand chained to protest the mismanagement of railways and passenger harassment since July 7. Initially, he started the movement alone, but later his friends, classmates and several other students also participated in it. For the past few days, they have been protesting through songs, poems, street dramas and various anti-corruption placards at Kamlapur station.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday (July 20), the double bench of the High Court led by Justice Md. Nazrul Islam Talukder instructed the lawyer of the state to explain the reason for taking the position of DU student Roni at the railway station.
Ticketing platform Shohoz.com started selling train tickets online in the country from Independence Day that is, March 26 this year. After the termination of deal with CNS BD, Shohoz-Synesis-Vincen JV got new online ticket sales responsibility. From March 26 online train ticket sales started under the management of this company.
