The government has decided to virtualize government and private offices to save electricity. This decision was taken at a coordination meeting on ‘electricity and energy matters’ at the Prime Minister’s office in Tezgaon in the capital on Monday morning. According to the decision of the meeting, the Ministry of Public Administration will coordinate the virtual management of government offices to implement the decision. Besides, the ways of reducing working hours in government offices will also be worked on.
At the end of the meeting, Prime Minister’s Advisor on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Tawfiq E Elahi Chowdhury conveyed the message. Minister of State for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu, Chief Secretary of Prime Minister’s Office Ahmed Kaykaus, Secretary of Prime Minister’s Office Tofazzal Hossain were also present in the meeting.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stated the cause of this crisis on July 5 amid dissatisfaction after the return of load shedding due to shortage in power generation despite various steps taken in the power sector in the last era. Due to the effect of Russia-Ukraine war, the price of oil, gas and power generation materials have increased in the international market. Along with that, problems have arisen in the transportation system. Many countries in the world are crying out for electricity.
It may be noted that, oil-based power plants are also unable to operate at full capacity due to the high price of fuel oil. International crude oil prices are forecast to rise in the coming months as the Ukraine-Russia war and post-Covid boost demand.
