Agrogami, a panel participating in the e-CAB election held a meeting at Gulshan Club in the capital with women entrepreneurs and advisors. On the verge of the e-CAB election, the group of women assembled prior this event. From entrepreneurs to investors, academics to journalists, psychologists to sociologists, women were present in this two and a half hour session. At the invitation of Agrogami, the pioneer, the female participants had a vibrant and lively presence.
The review and goal setting meeting was held on Sunday night to take them further through further expansion of the business sector.
Ambarin Reza, a leading candidate of the Agrogami panel co-hosted the event with panel chief Shomi Kaiser. Nasima Akhter Nisha, another member of the panel, told the story behind the empowerment of women by popularizing domestic products through e-commerce business without sacrificing their careers by sending their children to school.
Then Tania Wahab, an early entrepreneur of e-CAB, Jerin Marjan Khan, a Scooty entrepreneur, and Tulip, a legal advisor, shared their views among the attendees. At the same time, they praised e-CAB’s ongoing executive committee for completing digital signatures among consumers and automating grievance redressal processes in online businesses to reduce cyber harassment of girls in online shopping.
Speaking on the occasion, Maliha Quader, founder of Sahaj.com, spoke about the high cost of data in Bangladesh. She emphasized popularizing online shopping with motivation and incentives of entrepreneurs in the sector, instead of imposing VAT or taxes..
The President of Women in Technology and Professor of Dhaka University Dr. Lafifa Jamal also presented an observation report on the e-commerce sector. She also wished good luck to every member of the Agrogami panel and advised to bring gender based digital inequality, digital payments and marginalized women entrepreneurs into the mainstream as device owners.
Ishita Sharmin, CEO of Bikroy.com, said: ‘During the Covid-19 pandemic, we received tremendous support from Shomi apa and Tomal vai of this panel of e-CAB. I wish this support will be continued in coming days as well. We want to bring more invest for women in the future.’
At the event, Mosammat Jasmine shared her story behind her initiatives.
The couple entrepreneurs who were present in the gathering took part in a competition to build the tallest tower using Stagetti, Marsfellow and tape under the direction of volunteer Samia Amberin and Naorin.
Mother-daughter entrepreneurs Nabila Kulsum and Lubaba Nabil also spoke on the occasion. Among the participants, prominent investment expert Maniza, former president of JCI Sara, Dr. Nuzhat Chowdhury, Sabha Islam, Rezwana and many more were present on the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Shomi Kaiser said, “We have gone through many challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic. With the tireless support of the Prime Minister and the participation of all the organizations in the ICT sector, e-CAB has been able to create employment for 200,000 people at a time when everyone was losing their jobs. To prevent unwanted scams, we initiated to set up a central grievance redressal cell with a consumer rights in the style of London a year ago. Hopefully, it will be fully operational in the next 2 months.”
