A day-long training workshop on ‘Online VAT Procedure’ was organized by ICT Business Promotion Council (IBPC) and Bangladesh Computer Society with the participation of members of Bangladesh Computer Society.
IBPC Executive Officer Faisal Khan delivered a welcome address at the workshop at 11 am on Saturday, May 14 at BCS Innovation Center in Dhanmondi. He said that IBPC has been conducting regular training programs / workshops with BCS. Paying VAT online is an important issue for tech-traders. We are hopeful that BCS members will benefit from this workshop.
BCS Secretary General Kamruzzaman Bhuiyan addressed the training workshop. He said that BCS is committed to introduce the business of BCS members to modern and contemporary issues. Training programs are part of our daily routine. These activities will contribute to the enhancement of our skills as per the needs of the members.
BCS vice-president of the workshop Md. Rashed Ali Bhuiyan said VAT is an important issue for technology traders. We are all getting used to everything from banking transactions to online activities. So we have to get used to paying VAT online.
Thanking the participants, the BCS vice-president added that BCS is constantly working for its members. To expand the activities of BCS across the country, our two new branches have started operations in Rangpur and Tangail. We will also conduct this training program in the branches outside the capital. As a large technology organization including the government’s ICT division, post telecommunications department, BTRC, BCS is working side by side with other non-governmental organizations. We will also play a role in building a smart Bangladesh by paying knowing the rules and regulations of VAT and paying VAT properly. I am hopeful that we can also play a role in the production of technology products.
Chittagong Customs, Excise and VAT Joint Commissioner Md. Tariq Hasan was present as an instructor at the workshop. He said there is a strong perception among technology traders that on computers VAT does not apply. However, there are many computer related products that contain VAT. It is the responsibility of the traders to deposit VAT in the government treasury. So you have to have a clear idea about the issues of VAT. The government encourages paying VAT online. This allows hassle-free VAT to be paid. So we have to get used to paying VAT online from now on.
At the end of the day-long workshop, certificates are awarded to the trainees.
