Cumilla City Corporation (CCC) elections will be held on June 15. After almost five years, the Election Commission (EC) is going back to the monitoring system with the help of technology. The election commissioners have decided to install CCTV cameras inside and outside each center.
The Election Commissioner (EC) Md. Alamgir conveyed this information to journalists on Thursday (May 12) in his office at Agargaon Election Building in the capital.
He said that in the Cumilla City Corporation elections, there will be a CC Camera outside each polling station and one inside each polling booth (except the secret place where voters cast their votes). So that if there is any irregularity, action can be taken after review.
He added, “When the returning officer goes to the polling station with election materials, he will have CC cameras on or before. The camera will remain until the results are announced after the counting of votes.”
The former EC secretary said that EVMs should be customized and candidates and candidate representatives should be kept at every level of election during the counting of votes. It is in our law.
It is learned that in 2010, the Election Commission headed by ATM Shamsul Huda decided to increase the use of technology in vote management. According to him, in the big elections of that time, besides using CCTV, voting was also monitored online. It was a huge success in several elections, including the 2011 Narayanganj city election. Keeping that continuity, Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed’s commission also monitored the polling stations online to a limited extent.
The popular platform ‘Skype’ was then used for online polling station monitoring. In this, the entire polling booth was captured through internet by connecting video camera through laptop in the concerned polling station. And a team of the Election Commission was active all the time to monitor it. The whole matter was handled by the EC Information and Communication Technology Department.
