Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mostafa Jabbar said the demand and importance of post offices will increase as digital trade grows. That’s why there is no alternative to converting it to a fully digital post office. The Minister expressed firm hope that the postal service would be upgraded to the desired level soon with the implementation of this master plan prepared by the concerned experts including the officials of the Postal Department.
A meeting was jointly organized by the Postal Department and a2i Program at the Dak Vaban auditorium in Agargaon on Monday (May 9) to discuss the implementation of the work plan for digital post office.
Speaking as the chief guest at the meeting, the Minister said that the Digital Service Design Lab (DSDL) proposal formulated to make the post office suitable for the digital age is a historic milestone in the establishment of digital post office. This has laid the foundation for the digitization of productive activities.
Expressing his determination to utilize the huge opportunity of providing services to the people through the post office, he said that the postal department has the capability to deliver services to the doorsteps of every person in the country including remote areas using the vast network of post office, huge infrastructure and manpower.
Highlighting the context of Digital Bangladesh, Mostafa Jabbar said, “Our Digital Bangladesh is not limited to the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The world is now heading towards the fifth industrial revolution. Japan Society is talking about 5.0 (5th generation).
The Minister also stressed on the need to set up a separate digital cell to take forward the digitization activities of the post office. He also called for the recruitment of skilled manpower in this cell. He said, “Through this, we will establish a golden Bengal of Bangabandhu’s cherished dream by establishing a digital equality society based on advanced and non-discriminatory knowledge using technology.”
Secretary of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications Md. Khalilur Rahman presided over the ceremony. Stressing on the need to transform the postal department into a digital post office as soon as possible, he said that maximum steps would be taken to solve the problem of digitization. But before that we need to know what people expect from the post office.
At the beginning of the program, the director general of the postal department Md. Siraj Uddin highlighted the master plan and strategy of the digital post office. He pledged to do his utmost to implement the action plan adopted to digitize the postal department, adding that DSDL is a historic milestone for digitization of postal services.
Additional Secretary of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications Selima Sultana and Chief e-Governance Strategist (Strategist) of a2i Farhad Zahid Sheikh also spoke on the occasion.
