Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) has confirmed the use of illegal jammers in 325 places of the country including 212 in the capital alone. According to the organization, apart from a part of Pallabi police station, two residential areas of Banani police station, Nikunj, Mohakhali DOHS and Old Dhaka, the use of these illegal technologies has increased in Purana Paltan, Banasree and Dhanmondi.
However, mobile operators have identified the use of jammers, repeaters and boosters at the institutional and individual levels in more than a thousand places in the capital to investigate network problems. Due to this, the problem of call drop and lack of network at the hot user level is not going to be solved in any way.
According to sources, these technologies are being sold in different markets of the country including Baitul Mukarram Market, Stadium Market in the capital and in various marketplaces online. Many unscrupulous traders are illegally importing and selling mobile jammers, repeaters and boosters. They are being bought and used by mosques, hospitals, private institutions.
According to telecom experts, the use of boosters, repeaters or jammers puts extra strain on mobile waves. As a result, when the customer uses his mobile phone, it interrupts the signal coming from the tower and the signal coming from the jammer. When these two waves coincide, they no longer have an understandable signal. As a result, customers get in trouble with call drop, calling etc.
Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (BTRC) has already started conducting operations with the law enforcement agencies along with creating public awareness by issuing warnings at the consumer level on the basis of AMTOB’s allegations. A joint operation team comprising RAB-10 and BTRC officials conducted separate operations in Tejkunipara area of Tejgaon police station and Bangabandhu National Stadium market area of Paltan police station from 8:15 pm to 8:30 pm on Monday. At that time, four people were arrested for selling illegal network jammers, boosters and repeaters without the approval of BTRC.
On Tuesday, the RAB was informed that Rana Hossain (36), Md. Moniruzzaman Bahar (35), Md. Ashraf Hossain (29) and Rajibul Haque (23) were arrested in this connection. During the operation they recovered eight signal shields, 40 signal shield antennas, AC adapters with eight power cables, 21 mobile tree band repeaters,
AMTOB Secretary General Brigadier General SM Farhad (Retd.) Said, “According to the law of the Government of Bangladesh, it is a punishable offense to illegally import or install jammer, repeater or booster types radio equipment. Interferences are created on mobile networks for the widespread use of these radio equipment. As a result, the quality of the network is damaged, including call drops. In this regard, BTRC has conducted various activities including issuing notices at different times. For this, it is necessary to create wide public awareness. We are working with BTRC on this. ”
