Election for the 2022-24 term of Bangladesh Computer Society (BCS), the largest organization in the IT business sector of the country, will be held tomorrow, on Wednesday (March 16). Voting for the election of the central executive and eight branch committees of the organization will be held from 10 am to 5 pm in the auditorium of Krishibid Institute Bangladesh (KIB) in the capital. The results will be announced on the same day and the posts of the selected candidates will also be distributed.
Shafqat Haider, Managing Director of Ciproco Computers Limited, will discharge his duties as the Chairman of the Election Board.
The three-member selection board includes Khandaker Atiq-e-Rabbani, Managing Director of The Computers Limited and Sheikh Kabir Ahmed, Managing Director of Ora-Tech Consulting Limited.
The Election Appeal Board, headed by Mozammel Haque, Chairman, Digital Services Limited will function, where the members are Mamluk Sabir Ahmed, Managing Director, Computer Services Limited and Abul Kalam Azad, Chief Executive Officer, Tracer Electronics.
Candidates are contesting for 14 seats in two panels named ‘Sammana’ and ‘Members’ Voice’ for the seven posts of the Executive Committee. The two panels are led by Mohammad Zahirul Islam, Managing Director of Smart Technologies and Subrata Sarkar, proprietor of C&C Trade International.
The other 6 candidates of the Samamana Panel are: Muhammad Monirul Islam, Managing Director of Computer City Technologies Limited, Yusuf Ali Shamim, proprietor of Computer Point, Md. Jabedur Rahman Shaheen, Orient Computers, Chief Executive of Perennial International, Mozher Imam Chowdhury (Pinu), Speed Technology and Engineering Ltd. Its chairman Mosharraf Hossain Sumon and the owner of Welkin Computers Md. Nazrul Islam Hazari.
Mohammad Nazrul Islam Helali, proprietor of Golden Trade International BD, SM Wahiduzzaman, proprietor of Micro-sun Systems, and Md. Ahsanul Islam, the owner of South Bangla Computer Md. Kamruzzaman Bhuiyan, Chairman of Startech and Engineering Limited Md. Rashed Ali Bhuiyan and Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman, proprietor of Tech Hill.
There are seven posts in each branch committee of BCS. Fourteen candidates are contesting in Barisal branch, seven in Comilla, nine in Chittagong, 18 in Jessore, 14 in Khulna, seven in Mymensingh, seven in Rajshahi and 15 in Sylhet.
One thousand 434 voters will cast their votes to elect them this time. As there are strong candidates in both the panels in the election, the voters think that there will be a close contest in the polls. Election Secretariat sources said that according to the order of members, there is a picture of each candidate in the ballot. Voters are the candidates of choice by putting a special seal on this picture. Voters in Dhaka will get one and regional voters will get two ballots. At the end of the voting, the result of the vote will be counted through a software.
