The Digital Literacy Center (DLC) has been set up for secure internet. State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak inaugurated the platform at the BCC Conference Center on Tuesday afternoon. At the same time, the state minister hoped that the youth of the country would play a courageous role in keeping the digital space of the world safe.
Emphasizing the security of digital space, he added that in the meantime, many young people of the country are using the power of internet to bring financial prosperity to their families as well as contribute to the digital economy.
Speaking as the chief guest at a panel discussion on digital literacy on secure internet conducted by Ayman Sadiq, Palak said, “Age is not a matter of consideration, fun content can be created with creativity and responsibility; Which, of course, made the video an overnight sensation. What is identity is also not a matter of consideration. The question is whether he is talented and creative. Our young people have this talent and creativity. All that is needed now is to create a field for them. Sadat Rahman has proven it. So, we will not only teach children, we will also learn from them.”
UNDP Country Director Sudipta Mukherjee, UNICEF Bangladesh Child Protection Specialist Munira Hasan, BASIS President Russell T. Ahmed, Managing Director of Sisimpur Md. Shah Alam, Director of Mobile Operator Grameen Robi’s Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer Shahed Alam and Meta’s Head of Public Policy, Bangladesh Shabnaz Diya spoke in the meeting on the challenges and technics of disseminating digital literacy.
Joining online in the first phase, Kushtia’s Daulatpur Baragangia Girls’ High School teacher Mohammad Azizul Haque, food blogger Rafsan, digital artist Masuda and Gray Advertising managing director Gausul Azam Shaon shared their views on the power of creative content to win against bullying culture. At the same time, bridging the gap between parents and children in the digital world is important.
In the last part of the quiz, 5 people including Sumaiya Sultana of Rajshahi, Md. Monir, cameraman of Spice TV Manab Barai, staff reporter of BTV Kumar Biswajit were awarded.
Shamima Shravani, creator of ‘Nishibhut’, was also honored for creating creative content.
NM Ziaul Alam, Senior Secretary, Department of Information and Communication Technology was the special guest at the function presided over by Bangladesh Computer Council Executive Director Dr. Abdul Mannan. Welcoming remarks were made by Engineer Saiful Alam Khan, Project Director, Secured Email for Government and Digital Literacy Center, ICT Department.
After that, cyber teen founder and children’s Nobel laureate Sadat Rahman gave a presentation highlighting the importance of digital signature for all, forgetting age and classification. He highlighted the risks to children and their causes. In this case, the use of ‘secret’ social media accounts is increasing the cyber bullying situation of children, Saadat urged the parents to stay connected with the children through this identity.
