Toshiba Corporation is focusing on creating power management semiconductors to compete with power chip giants like Infinion Technologies. To that end, the company will double its chip production capacity. The company has announced an investment of one billion dollars. News Reuters.
Toshiba will build a cutting-edge 300-millimeter fabrication plant in central Japan to make power management chips. These chips are mainly used to control the electric power of cars, electronics devices and industrial parts.
It is planned to start chip production from this new factory by March 2025. When the first phase will be completed, Toshiba’s chip production capacity will be two and a half times higher than at present.
Although investing $1 billion, Toshiba will invest more to build capacity based on demand, a company spokesman said.
