State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu has emphasized balanced distribution of modern technology to increase the use of renewable energy.
Speaking as the chief guest at the concluding workshop of the ‘Renewable Energy Efficiency Program’ with technical assistance from the German government on Monday (January 31), the Minister of State said that the promotion of clean energy is essential for sustainable development. Development will be done keeping the environment cohesive.
He further said, “GIZ has made commendable contribution in building an energy conscious society with renewable energy. Emphasis must be placed on the efficiency and conservation of clean and renewable fuels, as well as coordination with technology, economic development and environment for overall development. The existing incentives for renewable energy will be continued.”
Anwarul Islam Sikder, former chairman of SREDA, former professor of BUET, Dr. M Nurul Islam, Additional Chief Engineer of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board. Abdur Rauf Mia, BGMEA Director Abdullah Hill Rakib, BSREA President Deepal Chandra Barua and GIZ Bangladesh Country Director Dr. Angelica Flederman spoke in the panel discussion titled’ SREDA: The journey after 2021’ conducted by Engineer Mohammad Hossain, Director general of Power Cell.
The event was addressed by Fatima Yasmin, Secretary of the Department of Economic Relations; Habibur Rahman, Secretary of the Department of Power, and Achim Troesta, German Ambassador to Bangladesh while the session was presided over by SREDA Chairman Mohammad Alauddin.
It can be noted that, SREDA has set up the National Solar Help Desk with the technical assistance of GIZ, which is playing an important role in the development of rooftop solar or renewable energy in the country. The country’s first Sustainable Energy Idea Challenge is organized for university level students. The first International Conference on Energy Efficiency and Conservation Awareness was held in 2019. Spontaneous participation of citizens is essential for building an energy conscious society. With due diligence in this regard, SREDA has started an awareness campaign with other partners called ‘Saving Energy, Prosperous Future’.
