After long nine months of competition, the winners of the first ever Bangladesh ICT Skill Competition were announced on Tuesday, November 2. Organized by Huawei; 15 of the 900 participants from the country’s engineering universities made it to the finals. Among them, Sohan Salahuddin Mugdha, Rabib Ibrat and Md. Tahmidur Rafid of BUET have become the champions.
The first runners-up in the competition were Md. Kaf Shahriar, Hasan Mesbaul Ali Taher and Suhana Binte Rashid of CUET. The second runners-up were Arif Ahmed Nawfel, Md. Taqiul Hasan Shakib and Md. Selim Reza Jim of North South University.
Speaking as the chief guest at the virtual gala event organized to announce the winners’ names, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak said 492 Digital Service Employment Training Centers would be set up for future generations under the EDC project of the ICT department. He said there are now 20 lakh IT workers in the country and the department plans to increase this number to 3 million in the next four years.
Palak further said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and under the guidance of her ICT advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy, no one can deny that Bangladesh is moving forward in digital transformation today. We are moving fast. In fact, we have been able to ensure sustainable growth. Now our young people are preparing to lead in the future.
In addition to using Huawei’s innovative solutions, Palak also mentioned the company’s contribution to the country’s grassroots digital connectivity as one of the leading partners in the field of ICT in Bangladesh.
He said that all the Union Digital Centers are now connected to the Internet in collaboration with Huawei under the Info Gov II project. Huawei now is a part of our digital society and life.
Beatrice Kaldun, Country Director of UNESCO in Bangladesh was also present on the occasion. Noting that such a competition is a positive step for the youth of Bangladesh to go for world leadership through advanced education, he said, “Although this event is literally called a competition, it is actually a training program.”
Kazi Delwar Hossain, Head, Department of Electrical and Communication Engineering, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) also spoke on the occasion while Zhang Zhengjun, CEO of Huawei Technology Bangladesh Limited presided over the meeting.
It was informed at the ceremony that today’s winners will take part in the Huawei ICT Skill regional Challenge to be held in May 2022. The champion team is also being recruited at the Huawei Bangladesh office.
