State Minister for ICT, Zunaid Ahmed Palak gave two more gifts to Dhaka Reporters Unity while inaugurating DRU apps and ICT lab. The state minister expressed interest in setting up a Sheikh Russell Digital Lab there and giving the responsibility of conducting digital signature and cyber security training activities across the country.
He expressed his interest in the ‘Meet the Reporters’ program held at the DRU auditorium in Segunbagicha area of the capital on Wednesday.
The members present on the occasion accepted the gift given by the ICT department with a huge applause.
Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, the State Minister for ICT said, “No one can organize workshops better than the journalists.” I hope an MoU will be signed in the next 7 days.
“We want to set up a Sheikh Russell Modern Digital Lab at DRU so that journalists can build themselves as skilled IT professionals as well as journalists,” he added “If you allow and give space. I will make a complete lab equipped with 20 laptops, multimedia and smartboards”.
Elaborating on the progress of the government’s ICT department in 12 years, Palak said the country’s Internet users have increased from 5.6 million to 120 million in a span of 12 years due to building a solid infrastructure under the supervision of Sajeeb Wazed Joy. ICT exports have risen from 26 million dollars to 1.3 billion dollars. The number of our official website was not more than 20-25, today we have been able to take 1500 services online in Bangladesh.
Apart from this, the ICT Minister called upon the media personnel to highlight the great contribution of small initiatives taken in an era.
DRU General Secretary Moshiur Rahman Khan conducted the function while DRU President Mursalin Nomani presided over. Among others, Digital Literacy Project Director Saiful Alam Khan was also present.
Apart from inaugurating the DRU app, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak handed over a total of 15 computers including 5 high configuration computers for setting up a DRU ICT lab on behalf of the ICT department. At the same time, he said that Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has set a wonderful example before the world that it is possible to turn a poor corrupt state into a technology-dependent digital middle-income state in just 12 years.
