The 4th Bangladesh Robot Olympiad (BDRO) started with a series of mind-blogging success of the Bangladesh team including winning gold medals in the last three events of the International Robot Olympiad.
This year’s event was inaugurated on September 16 through a virtual event.
State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony. Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the Olympiad where the eminent academician and writer Prof. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal was connected as the special guest.
The state minister for ICT said robots would not take away people’s employment rather would increasingly create employments.
Palak said that day is not far away when the world-class robots will be built on the ground of Bangladesh and the robotics industry will create employment for millions of young people. There will be robot manufacturing and designing in Bangladesh; Bangladeshi children will do robot programming and will operate robots. They will provide this knowledge based service all over the world. It will generate billions of dollars in revenue and increase employment in the country.
In his inaugural address, DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Md. Akhtaruzzaman said, keeping in view the Sustainable Development Goals 2030, Vision 2041 and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, it is necessary to increase the involvement of these in the educational activities of the universities.
Professor Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal highlighting various information about the prevalence of robots in the near future. said that if the technologies can be taught to the new generation of the country, it will be a big task for the country.
The program was presided over by the Executive Director of the Bangladesh Computer Council Md. Abdul Mannan.
The main theme of this year’s Bangladesh Robot Olympiad is ‘Social Robot’. It is jointly organized by the Department of Information and Communication Technology of the Government, Department of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering, University of Dhaka and Bangladesh Open Source Network. Bangladesh Computer Council is the implementation partner of the olympiad.
