E-commerce is a promising sector in the country. Despite the glimmer of hope, the sector is beginning to overcome the crisis through the activities of a few e-commerce companies. Among them, the police have found two bank accounts of e-commerce company E-Orange Shop, which was accused of embezzling around Tk 1,100 crore from one lakh customers. As of July 20, the two banks currently have Taka 3 crore 12 lakh 14 thousand 356.
Earlier, two cases were filed against e-Orange for embezzling customer money. According to the case, the original owners of e-Orange, Sonia Mehzabin, Masukur Rahman and Amanullah are in jail. Accused Bithi Akhter and two others are absconding. As a result, the customers of the company are spending their days in fear.
Another e-commerce platform, Dhamaka.com, has put about 600 traders at risk. The company promised to pay the suppliers within 10 days but did not pay in six months. In this situation, the traders have resorted to the Commerce Minister to collect the debt of Tk 200 crore.
They have written to Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi requesting him to take steps to recover the dues. The letter was given by Dhamaka Shopping.com Sellers Association.
In this regard, Asif Ahnaf, Director, E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh E-Cab, a leading organization in the field of e-commerce, said that the organization has always been in touch with the Ministry of Commerce to restore order in the e-commerce sector. Various suggestions are being given. At the same time, the membership of the accused organizations is also being announced to be canceled.
