The golden jubilee of issuing stamps of Bangladesh is July 29, 2021. The Mujibnagar government issued the first 6 stamps on this day in 1971 during the war of liberation. These stamps issued by the Mujibnagar government are a glorious part of the history of the liberation war.
The Department of Posts has issued commemorative stamps on the occasion of the day. It was unveiled by the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Mr. Mustafa Jabbar through a virtual event.
Highlighting the historic importance of issuing the first postage stamp of Bangladesh, the Minister paid homage to all the martyrs of the country as well as the martyred officers of the Postal Department.
Stamps, he said, speak of a nation’s history, heritage, culture and eminent personalities. The people with whom stamps are issued are famous people in history. He described the initiative to issue commemorative stamps to people who have contributed to the arts, literature, culture and politics, including the liberation war, as a great work. He said one stamp represents centuries of history.
Referring to every day of the 9 months of the liberation war as part of the history of sacrifice of the nation, he added, “Although we may not be able to issue stamps on all the events, we are taking initiative to issue postage stamps on the golden jubilee of independence. “We have made the same effort in Mubijbbarsha.
Commenting that ‘one stamp can be an epic to the new generation’, the minister called upon all concerned, including the philatelic organization, to take initiative to inspire the new generation as collectors of commemorative postage stamps. The Minister directed the Postal Department to take steps to collect commemorative stamps in all post offices of the country.
Director-General of the Postal Department Md. Siraj Uddin presided over the function while Secretary of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications Md. Afzal Hossain and Chairman of BTRC Shamsunder Sikder spoke on the occasion. BTRC Chairman Shyamsunder Sikder highlighted the history of postage stamps in Bangladesh as well as the history of postage stamps in the sub-continent.
On the occasion of the golden jubilee of the issuance of postage stamps in Bangladesh, a commemorative stamp worth ten taka, an opening envelope worth ten taka and a data card worth five Taka and a special seal have been issued.
Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar unveiled postage stamps and opening envelopes at the event and released data cards. A special seal is used at this time. The Minister issued a statement on the occasion of the golden jubilee of the issuance of the first stamp of Bangladesh.
