10 years ago, Microsoft bought Skype for 8.5 billion dollars. That was the biggest acquisition at that time in the history of Microsoft.
People were astonished to see Microsoft buying Skype with such a huge amount of money. The app later made the record of a billion downloads.
But this video calling app is going to come to an end during this heyday of video calling. Technologists say that the era of Skype will come to an end as soon as the closure of Windows 10 and the launch of version 11.
Because in Windows 11 version, video-calling app ‘Microsoft Team’ will be there by default. Skype will be optional.
“It looks like Microsoft is going to kill Skype,” Adrian Weckler, the technology’s editor at the Irish and Sunday Independent, told the BBC.
Jeremy Kaplan, director of Future Publishing Content, also said goodbye to the popular video app called ‘Bye-Bye Skype’.
And Tom Warren, editor of the technology website The Verge, said after hearing of Microsoft’s decision, “RIP Skype.”
