FedEx has launched a pilot project to transport goods in self-driven vehicles while rival United Parcel Service or UPS is testing the use of drones.
In this context, FedEx, the package delivery company has formed an alliance with robotics startup Nuro. Under the agreement, Nuro’s automated vehicle will run for the next few years on FedEx’s delivery network in Houston, Texas. That’s what the partnership head of Nuro, Cosimo Leipold informed.
Rebecca Young, vice president of modern technology and innovation at FedEx, hoped that Nuro’s supply vehicles would make the project relatively easy.
Nuro’s vehicles could be extremely helpful to deliver late at night or send goods to unconventional places, she said. This will reduce the headaches with the supply, not the number of drivers.
In a different project, on the other end, FedEx has been using a relatively small robotic vehicle Roxo of Deca Research and Development Corporation in Plano, another city in Texas.
Nuro’s vehicles are already starting work in the Houston area for the US supermarket management company Kroger and Dominus Pizza. Nuro is also being tested in the state of Arizona.
