In the proposed budget for the coming 2021-22 financial year, it has been proposed to give concessional facilities for the import of raw materials used in computer production as well as to reduce the prices of some computer parts. This will reduce the price of computers produced in the country. Similarly, the price of a clone PC of the same quality may be lower than that of a brand PC.
Besides, an opportunity was created to set up a factory for making international brand computers and laptops in Bangladesh like mobile phones.
In the proposed budget, concessional facilities have been given for the import of raw materials or materials used in the production of computers locally. The raw materials used in computer manufacturing are copper war; Jumper Wire, Aluminum Foil, Solder Tinbar, Soldering Wire, Solder Lidbar, Potassium Permanganate, Uncovered Photo Sensitive Hand Emulsion Film, HASL Flux, Solderrick, Rolling, Soldering Flux, Ceramic Dielectric Multi-Layer Capacitors and Aluminum Electric Capacitors.
On the other hand, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has proposed to exempt VAT at the production stage on import of computer or laptop making equipment, especially RAM, PCBA / Motherboard, SSD, hard disk drive, loaded PCB, USB cable.
In his budget speech on Thursday, the finance minister proposed a 10-year tax exemption on domestically produced products in the proposed budget for the 2021-22 fiscal year with the aim of establishing a ‘Made in Bangladesh’ brand to facilitate computer manufacturers.
