The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved a project titled ‘Establishing Telecommunication in the Economic Zones of Bangladesh’ at a cost of Tk 95 crore.
The project was approved at an ECNEC meeting chaired by Prime Minister and ECNEC Chairperson Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday, May 4.
This first phase of the project will be implemented by Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited -BTCL. The project will be implemented from January 2021 to June 2023.
Under this project, a modern and high-speed telecommunication network will be set up at Shrihat in Moulvibazar, Sabrang and Naf in Teknaf and Sonadia Tourism Park in Maheshkhali and Jamalpur Economic Zone.
The main objectives of the project are to set up high capacity optical fiber transmission links, to install IP equipment of 6,000 connection capacity with modern facilities in economic zones and to provide round-the-clock service and to construct one telecom building in each economic zone to install the necessary equipment.
