State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak held the first meeting in the meeting room of the office of the state telecom company Teletalk Bangladesh Limited in Gulshan instead of meeting at the pre-arranged place. Before the meeting, he sent 13 questions to the Managing Director of the company A. K. M. Habibur Rahman.
Then on Wednesday afternoon, in an exchange meeting with the company’s officials, Palak asked to know about the 5 sectors with the highest income and expenditure in determining what to do to make the company profitable in the next 5 months. At the same time, the Minister of State has directed an internal audit to find out whether there are ‘black-spots’ or ‘black sheep’ in Teletalk.
He said, I need internal IT and financial reports which are exclusive and classified. To curb evil and nurture discipline to make teletalk profitable, we need to determine, who to hire and who to fire instantly. Integrity, transparency and accountability must be ensured.
“Teletalk has disappointed the people even after getting 5G spectrum,” the state minister said, adding that, “Teletalk has done an experimental 5G rollout. We have given you that spectrum. Teletalk has to move forward with these special facilities. It was Teletalk which go 3G at first. People lined up to get this connection. But from there you have disappointed many people. So, no matter how tough it is by next June, we will be tough. We will not look to anyone’s face, influence by any individual or syndicate. I will report directly to the Prime Minister for what reason and for what interest they want to do this. There is no scope for correction; will be punished”.
