Hasna Hena and Akalima internet workers were burnt to death
It has been reported that 2 women internet workers and 1 engineer were killed in a sudden fire at Khawaja Tower in Mohakhali. According to sources, a terrified woman fell down from the balcony of Ninth floor and died during the fire. It is known that the name of the deceased woman is Hasna Hena (27). He is an employee of Orbit Networking of Race Online Limited located on the 9th and 10th floors of that building. After that, it was reported that Aklima Rahman (24) working in Billing and Support at Orbit Internet (Race Online) was killed in a fire accident. In addition, Rafiqul Islam (62), a sixty-four-year-old engineer, died about seven hours after the fire. ISPAB president Imdadul Haqu expressed deep sorrow over this death and prayed for the salvation of the departed souls.
According to the latest news, Rafiqul Islam, an engineer of Saif Powertech Company, was rescued unconscious from the building and was taken to the hospital where the doctors declared him dead. Bachchu Mia, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost, said that when the fire service members took Rafiqul Islam to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the doctors declared him dead.
In addition, half an hour earlier, about seven hours after the fire broke out, at 11:36 p.m., members of the fire service brought down the 65-year-old engineer Rafiqul Islam in an unconscious state.
Mohakhali Metropolitan Hospital information center staff Md. Ariful said that a woman was brought dead to their hospital. She may be in his thirties. Later, Tarek Hossain, operations officer of Earth Communication’s Networking Center, said that their offices are on the 9th and 10th floors. All three companies are owned by one owner. Hasna Hena worked in tele sales section of Orbit Networking Company. Her office was on the ninth floor. She fell and died while descending the rope.
In addition, some people were injured while descending the rope from above and glass fell on their heads; Many have been sickened by the smoke. Moreover, an unconfirmed source said that one of Race Online was killed but another woman was missing. Besides, four more people were injured and undergoing treatment at the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Two of them were taken there at 9 pm. One of them is computer engineer Taosin Ahmed Rakib (27). He worked in the Earth Telecommunication Networking Section. The other is Syed Mehdi Hasan (27). He worked as an engineer in a networking company called Resh on the ninth floor. Later, two more people were rescued and admitted to the burn institute. They are DGM HM Abdus Sabur (43) of Saif Power Tech on the 13th floor of Khaja Tower and his driver Md. Rafiqul Islam (45).
Meanwhile, several ISP companies, including Rais IT, put routers and servers in two data centers in Khawaja Tower and serve the entire country with bandwidth from 10 IIGs installed in the same building. Since the fire, their service has been severely disrupted due to unavailability of bandwidth.
About the damage, ISPAB President Imdadul Haque said, level three of the building, MaxHub, Amara Networks, Earthnet and Winstream IIG were burnt. As a result, we have already lost more than 60 percent bandwidth. In the future, if the police hand over the equipment and floor to us, then only we can restore the internet soon. Otherwise, it is not yet known when the internet speed will return. We are trying to ascertain the nature of the damage by talking to the administration.
It is to note that, the fire broke out in late afternoon on Thursday. As soon as it spread, 11 units of fire fighters joined the rescue and extinguishing the fire. In addition to the army, navy and air force, seven platoons of Ansar were deployed to help the fire service in extinguishing the fire.
And the fire service said that they rescued five people from that building.
