The late husband of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was a nuclear scientist. An Agricultural University will be established at Natore named after MA Wazed Mia. That’s why the Cabinet has given final approval to the draft ‘Dr.MA Wazed Mia Agricultural University Act, 2023’.
This approval was given in the Cabinet meeting held at Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s office on Monday. Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain gave this information in a press conference at the Secretariat after the meeting. He said, last August 28 the cabinet gave in-principle approval to the Dr. MA Wazed Mia Agricultural University Act. Now it has been given final approval. The university authorities will decide what subjects will be taught in the university.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s late husband M Wazed Mia. He was born on February 16, 1942 in Fatepur village of Pirganj upazila of Rangpur. Wazed Mia, the child of Abdul Quader Mia and Moyzan Nesha, was better known as ‘Sudha Mia’. He was third in the first class in Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Physics from Dhaka University in 1961 and first in the first class in the post-graduate examination in 1962.
Wazed Mia obtained his PhD degree in 1967 from Durham University, UK. Joined the then Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission in 1965. Later he became the chairman of the commission. Wazed Miah, who was involved in Chhatra League politics, was the VP of the Fazlul Haque Hall Student Council in 1961.
He married Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina in 1967. Wazed Mia has also written several books. He died on May 9, 2009 in the capital Dhaka.
