After the red-green-yellow lights era, ‘AI cameras’ are being added to the traffic system of the country on a trial basis at Gulshan-2 Signal Point. This system has been introduced with artificial intelligence signal maintenance equipment, CC cameras, image cameras, video cameras and other equipment.
According to sources, the latest technology is going to be added to 17 points in the capital initially under the initiative of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) to reduce traffic congestion and bring discipline in traffic management. Every point in Dhaka city will be brought under AI in a phased manner. The data from the AI cameras was collected through the Central Command Center. In this way, the traffic police will monitor the movement of all types of vehicles.
In the experimental use, the AI camera can see how many cars have violated traffic rules before and after releasing the signal. According to the data, in the last one month alone, 300,000 vehicles have broken traffic rules at this signal. When fully operational, the case will automatically be filed.
Traffic police personnel working at Gulshan-2 signal said that traffic cases will be automatically filed if the red light is turned on and the white spot is crossed. This will reduce the trend of traffic violations by 99 percent. Under this modern management, the suffering of traffic police will also be reduced to a great extent. Everyone will be alert as soon as the red light is on.
As the city corporation has introduced this system on an experimental basis in Gulshan-2 signal, the timing system signal that was in operation earlier in the signal lamp is no longer there. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) of Gulshan Traffic Division Abdul Momen said that AI systems with modern technology including intelligence cameras are being used instead.
On the other hand, The Chief Executive Officer (Additional Secretary) of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Md. Selim Reza said that the project is being monitored on a trial basis under the leadership of senior secretary of the Ministry of State. He said traffic management with AI technology will be finalized on the basis of the committee’s report.
