Fifty-two students of Noakhali University of Science and Technology (NUST) visited the National Museum of Science and Technology in the capital’s Agargaon. They visited the museum’s galleries and science exhibits on Sunday morning for their field training program at Bansdoc in the capital. They also participated a seminar titled ‘Scientific management to prevent dengue’.
A.J. M. Salahuddin Nagari, Deputy Director, Science Museum presented the keynote paper at the seminar. Director A.K.M. Lutfur Rahman Siddiq also spoke on the occasion. National Museum of Science and Technology Director General Mohammad Munir Chowdhury urged the students to ensure strict discipline and cleanliness in their respective lives as citizens instead of looking at the government to control the outbreak of dengue.
“Keeping their respective educational institutions, campuses, roads, backyards free of garbage and not throwing plastic, polythene in drains, roads, markets or anywhere, etc. are essential parts of civic etiquette and duty,” he said. But if they are not followed, no matter how big the drain is built or the sewerage line is expanded, the benefits will not be available. Therefore, as a force of youth, the students should work shoulder to shoulder with the city corporations or municipalities to make the people aware of the environment in their respective areas and to create law-abidingness in the minds of the people. No matter how big the environmentalists give in the meeting seminar, it is not possible for any authority to eradicate dengue alone unless they themselves as citizens are active in protecting the environment.”
