Recently, the Chinese company Huawei started selling a phone model called ‘Meta 60 Pro’. Immediately after this, analysts expressed the idea that the breakthrough technology of the Chinese company ‘SMIC’ has been used in its chip.
However, US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo dismissed that idea of analysts. In a hearing of the US Congress, he said, “There is no evidence that they (Huawei) can make this seven-nanometer chip on a large scale.”
The US stopped selling chip-making raw materials to Huawei in 2019, citing security risks. However, the company has been denying the allegations.
This month, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said the US government is trying to gather more information about Huawei’s chips.
Raimondo, on the other hand, termed the ban on Chinese government employees using iPhones as ‘worrisome’. He said that the United States has not found any evidence that Huawei is making smartphones on a large scale with high-quality chips.
