The 5th International Conference on Physics for Sustainable Development & Technology (ICPSDT-2023) has been organized by the Department of Physics at the Sheikh Kamal IT Business Incubator of Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) for two days. Bangladesh Accreditation Council Chairman Professor Mesbahuddin Ahmed inaugurated the conference on Thursday.
While speaking as the chief guest, he said, “The world is moving forward with the advancement of science. The development of Bangladesh is being completed at a rapid pace by dint of science and technology. The progress of the 4th industrial revolution is not possible without the role of physics. Such international conferences provide an opportunity for scientists and researchers from different countries to work together. Global warming has been increasing rapidly in the last few years. Environmental pollution and climate change are closely related.
“Recently, our country is also experiencing adverse changes in climate and environment. Which is affecting our normal life. At the same time, sustainable development is the most discussed issue in the world today. It is more important in developing countries like ours. Because our natural resources are insufficient compared to demand. Our universities and researchers have to work in these fields for a beautiful future generation. Hopefully, Bangladesh has great potential in the blue-economy. Through research, we will be able to contribute directly to the progress of our country in this sector” – he added.
The guest of honor at the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of CUET Professor Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Alam said, “The necessity of physics to understand the behavior of the earth is undeniable. The role of physics in sustainable development is also important. Engineers are not complete without physics. From such international conferences, our teachers and students get an idea about the latest advancements in science and research of different countries and their creative thinking, as well as future planning and exchange of information. We are now moving towards building Smart Bangladesh from Digital Bangladesh. I hope that through the ideas and knowledge gained from this conference, it will play a role in building a smart Bangladesh.”
The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Dr. Sunil Dhar was present as the special guest. The event was presided over by the conference chair and the head of the department of physics Dr. Swapan Kumar Roy. The conference secretary and professor of physics department Dr. Md. Ashraf Ali delivered the welcome speech. The program was conducted by Professor of Physics Department Dr. Animesh Chakraborty. This year’s theme of the conference is “Physics Research for Emerging Future”.
On the first day of the two day-long conference, India’s Professor Dr. Tanushree Saha Dasgupta and Professor Dr. Sushant Lahiri took part as the key note speakers in two different key sessions. Apart from this, 8 technical sessions are scheduled to be discussed on Computational Physics, Nuclear Physics, Materials Science, Atmospheric Physics and Nano Physics etc. In the conference, 4 key-note speeches, 14 invited speeches and 112 papers were presented by researchers in 14 technical sessions and 57 papers were presented in 1 poster session.
In this conference, apart from Bangladesh, hundreds of physics teachers, researchers, scientists, engineers, professionals and entrepreneurs from different countries including UK, Australia, South Korea, France, Turkey, India, and Japan have met.
Tomorrow, 8th September (Friday) 2023 AD at 7:00 pm in the evening, the Vice Chancellor of Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology Professor Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Alam will be present as the chief guest at the concluding ceremony of the conference. As a special guest, the former teacher of CUET Physics Department Professor Dr. Md. Abdur Rashid will be present. The ceremony will be presided over by the chair of the technical committee Dr. Mohammad Belal Hossain. The technical secretary of the conference DR. H.M.A.R will deliver a welcome speech.
