Regional phase of Al-Arafah Islami Bank 9th Bangladesh Junior Science Olympiad (BDJSO 2023) was held in Chattogram and Netrakona on Saturday. Netrakona Regional Olympiad was held at Anjuman Ardash Government High School. ‘Chattogram Regional Phase’ was held at Nasirabad Government Girls’ High School in the district.
About one thousand students from different districts participated in these two regional phases. Among them, about 450 students from 39 schools of Netrakona and surrounding districts participated in the Netrakona Regional Olympiad. The program started at nine in the morning with the national anthem. Prof. Sitanshu Kumar Bhadra, former principal of Netrakona Government College, inaugurated the program. Al Arafah Islami Bank Senior Executive Arafat-ul-Islam, Anjuman Ardash Government High School Ex-Headmaster Basudev Saha, Abu Abbas Degree College Assistant Professor Nazmul Kibar Sarkar, Assistant Headmaster Abu Sadek, and Netrakona Government Girls’ High School Teacher Md. Shafiqul Islam and other teachers were present as guests. Science Club “Mason” of Netrakona collaborated locally in organizing the Netrakona Regional Olympiad.
On the other hand, 460 students of Chattogram district participated in ‘Chattogram Regional Phase’. In the morning, the opening ceremony started with the National Anthem in the school premises. Alamgir Kabir, Assistant Teacher at Government Girls’ High School, and Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology Professor Dr. Ujjal Kumar Dev. Later, the opening of the Olympiad was announced by freeing up the balloons with the participants. After that, the students take part in the exam for 1 hour and 15 minutes. After the exam, students participated in a question-and-answer session. General Secretary of Bangladesh Science Popularization Association was present in the question and answer session. Farsim Mannan Mohammadi, professor of Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology, Dr. Ujjal Kumar Deb, Assistant Professor Sunanda Vaidya, Department of Biochemistry, University of Chattogram, Jayashree Das, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy, USTC. Chattogram social organization ‘Abboy’ has cooperated in organizing the Chattogram regional stage locally.
The results of Chattogram and Netrakona regional rounds will be published on BDJSO website very soon. The list of winners of all Regionals and School Olympiads can be found on the BDJSO website (www.bdjso.org).
The Dhaka regional phase will be held on August 26. The winners of the Olympiad will participate in the national event held in Dhaka. Then the 9th BDJSO camp will be held with the winners of the national phase.
The Bangladesh team of six members will be selected from there for the 20th International Junior Science Olympiad to be held in December in Thailand.
