The 48th Martyrdom Anniversary and National Mourning Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was celebrated at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) with various programs including wreath-laying at Bangabandhu’s mural, painting competition, short discussion meeting, and prayers.
Formal program of the National Mourning Day began with the hoisting of the black flag and the national flag and the university flag at half-mast in front of the university administration building at sunrise on Tuesday. At 9:30 in the morning, the Vice-Chancellor of JUST Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain along with the university teachers-students, officers and employees paid tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s mural with flowers. One by one, university teachers’ associations, officials, employees’ associations, residential halls, journalists’ associations and other professional, socio-cultural organizations paid tribute by placing flowers at the mural of the father of the nation.
On the occasion of the 48th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day on the second floor of TSC of the University at 10 am the JUST Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain inaugurated the drawing competition for children and teenagers. Students from various institutions including JUST School and College participated in the drawing competition.
The JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md Anwar Hossain said, ‘The loss of the father of the nation will never be fulfilled. Yet this grief must become our strength. We have to move forward in the ideals of the father of the nation. Bangabandhu’s murderers should be brought back and punished. For this, the government has to take the steps that need to be taken.’ In a brief meeting, the treasurer of the university, Professor Dr. Md. Anisur Rahman, the president of the teachers’ association, Professor Dr. Syed Md. Ghalib and others gave speeches.
Later, a special prayer was organized praying for the salvation of the souls of all the martyrs who died on August 15, including Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib. Prayers were conducted by senior Imam of the University’s Central Jame Masjid Maulana Md. Akramul Islam. After the prayers, on the occasion of the 48th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day, cooked food was distributed to the local needy in front of the Student-Teacher Center Auditorium (TSC) of the University.
The treasurer of the university Dr. Md. Anishur Rahman, Dean Professor Dr. HM Zakir Hossain, Professor Dr. Md. Iqbal Kabir Zahid, Dr. Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman, Dr. Md. Munibur Rahman, Dr. Md. Tanvir Islam, Dr. Md. Hafiz Uddin, Dr. Mohammad Jahangir Alam, Registrar Engineer Md. Ahsan Habib, Proctor Dr. Hasan Md. Al-Imran, Director of Student Counseling and Guidance Office. Md. Alam Hossain, the president of the teacher’s association. Syed Md. Ghalib, General Secretary Dr. Md. Ashrafuzzaman Zahid, convener of the supervisory committee of the employees’ association. Rabiul Islam, the chairman of various faculties of the university, the head of department, teachers and students, officers and employees were present in various programs organized throughout the day.
