The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division’s BGD e-GOV CIRT has taken a cautious stance before dealing with the threat of launching a ‘storm of attacks’ in the country’s cyber world with a deadline of August 15. 5 new organizations have been identified as critical information infrastructures after taking special precautions on August 3 over threats to make Bangladesh and Pakistan targets for attacks by alleged ‘hacktivists’. Among them, the Election Commission, President’s Office and Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company have formed their own Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) before August 15.
Also, Bangladesh Bank issued 11-point instructions to all banks and financial institutions of the country on August 10 after warning.
Although there was no report of any accident in the financial sector, the website of Chattogram Customs House was subjected to cyberattack. In addition, DIDos (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks have been carried out on several websites in the country. This type of attack keeps the website busy so that no one can access it. For quite some time, some hacker groups of Bangladesh, India and Pakistan have been threatening and attacking each other. Since last night, the hackers of these three countries have been trying to attack each other.
Even though no big cyberattack was reported until the latest news, the private television Banglavision reported, “Sent Bangladesh sites on a little vacation” The hacker group has given such a message demanding to keep the site of Bangladesh Bank down for an hour after the cyberattack. A hacker group named “Indian Cyber Force” has demanded to keep the e-ticketing site of Bangladesh Railway down for an hour. The hacker group also claimed to carry out a cyberattack on the site of the ticketing service provider Shohoz. With a related post, they wrote, “No buses, No trains, today for Bangladesh”. Besides, the website (flyticket.com.bd) has also been claimed by hackers to be down. They claim that they have downed the site for 1 hour. In the related post, they wrote, “No flights today, sorry”.
