The Election Commission (EC) has personal information of about 12 crore citizens out of 17 crore citizens of the country. Along with the National Identity Card or Smart NID, 171 partner service organizations use this database, which is vital for a citizen’s access to government or private services. As a result, in addition to taking care of their activities, the constitutional institution has formed a ‘Computer Emergency Response Team’ with its own manpower to provide digital security of the citizens’ national database. In case of cyberattacks, this team of 8 members will take immediate remedial measures and also take initiatives to prevent cyberattacks.
The ‘Computer Emergency Response Team’ consists of 8 members has been formed where the System Analyst of NID Wing has been made the convener, 1 member secretary and 6 members. The EC Secretariat has already informed the matter to the ICT Division Secretary Samsul Arefin.
National Identity Registration Division system analyst Aktaruzzaman is in the Computer Emergency Response Team convened by Deputy Project Director (Database) Major Md. Mamunur Rashid, Maintenance Engineer Mohammad Sohag, Programmer Md. Sirajul Islam, Networt Consultant Md. Shaukat Akbar Munshi, Database Consultant Tipu Sultan, Assistant Programmer Nusrat Jahan Urmi and Assistant Programmer Aminul Islam.
Their scope of work includes – Ensuring urgent digital security of the Election Commission as a Critical Information Infrastructure, taking necessary remedial measures immediately in case of cyber or digital attacks and disruption of cyber or digital security. The team will take necessary measures to prevent potential and upcoming cyber or digital attacks. Apart from this, to fulfill the objectives of the Digital Security Act, 2018, with the approval of the government, sharing of information with a similar domestic/foreign team or organization, and other activities prescribed by the relevant rules.
