The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world’s largest international organization of engineers, has expressed interest in continuously providing cooperation on the use of e-resources in engineering education and research in the country.
On Sunday (July 9), the Director of Public Relations Department of UGC Dr. Shamsul Arefin Confirmed the matter and said that the US-based organization proposed to provide e-journals and conference proceedings more effectively to the teachers and students of engineering and related subjects in the country through the Bangladesh University Grants Commission. For this purpose both the parties have agreed to renew the existing agreement between UGC and IEEE.
The decision was taken in a meeting of a three-member delegation led by the IEEE Director of International Sales Paul Cunning with UGC Member Professor Dr. Muhammad Alamgir. Other members of the IEEE delegation were Colin DeMello, International Area Manager, IEEE; and Shaji John, Vice President (Sales), Ebsco Information Services India Pvt.
Prof. Alamgir said in the meeting that IEEE is a reliable organization for engineering, computing and technology information worldwide. With the mutual collaboration of UGC and IEEE, teachers, researchers and students involved in engineering education will have easy access to highly cited publications in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechatronics, Cyber Security, Internet of Things and other engineering disciplines. Through this, there will be quality improvement and spread of knowledge in the field of engineering education and research in the country.
Paul Cunning said, IEEE will support the growth, innovation and improvement of engineering education by providing students, teachers, engineers and researchers in Bangladesh with the necessary and latest information on engineering education. He expressed interest in strengthening bilateral relations through joint discussions and cooperation. He expressed hope that researchers in Bangladesh would benefit from the strong ties created between UGC and IEEE. In the meeting, there was a detailed discussion on the further expansion of the use of e-resources in the universities of the country.
