UN, the United Nations will use artificial intelligence-based robots to provide relief or food aid in disaster and conflict areas. A World Food Program (WFP) official said the decision was taken to avoid risk to workers’ lives. News Reuters and The Prothom Alo.
The United Nations says UN aid workers have come under attack in recent years. Even after the Second World War, the incidence of such violence increased. Earlier this year, three workers from the UN food aid agency WFP lost their lives in violence in Sudan.
“Sometimes it becomes dangerous to send our workers or drivers to these places to provide relief,” said Bernhard Kovats, WFP’s head of innovation. For this, artificial intelligence will be used to reach these places for relief or assistance.
The UN is now using 50 vehicles to deliver food aid to South Sudan. Under the two projects, WFP will conduct a trial run from next year to drive these vehicles without drivers. Data will be collected with the help of satellites and sensors using artificial intelligence. These vehicles will be controlled remotely using this information.
