The Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) has demanded UNO’s punishment for getting signature of the Upazila Engineer by force on the work bill which is not finished yet. This demand was announced in a press release signed by the IEB General Secretary Engineer SM Manjurul Haque Manjur on Tuesday (June 27).
It is said that the last day of June closing of this financial year (2022-23) was on last Sunday (June 25) and the Upazila Engineer Md. Shahidul Islam working in Babuganj, Barisal did not agree to sign the bill leaving the work unfinished. In the said context, the UNO Nusrat Fatima of Babuganj Upazila misused the magisterial power and threatened to arrest the engineer and forced him to sign the bill at the Sonali Bank branch of Babuganj.
The press release also said that because the Upazila Engineer was forced to do such unethical work, there is strong reaction and dissatisfaction in the engineering community of the country. It is unethical to collect bills without completing the work.
IEB demands, to keep the country’s development activities running and for the safety of engineers, by providing round-the-clock security, Babuganj’s UNO should be quickly withdrawn after proper investigation and legal action should be taken against all those involved in the incident.
