The 4th Women Engineers Summit-2023 was celebrated on Friday (June 23) evening at the Engineers Institution in the capital on the occasion of ‘International Women Engineers Day’ to ensure the priority of women in the construction of Smart Bangladesh and a women-friendly engineering environment. The Women Engineers Summit was organized by The Engineers Foundation.
The summit was inaugurated by IEB General Secretary Engineer SM Manjurul Haque Manju and IEB President Engineer Md Abdus Sabur was present as the chief guest at the closing ceremony. The slogan of the summit this time was ‘Ensuring Visible Security’.
Speakers at the summit said that the participation of women in the engineering profession is increasing day by day, it is a matter of hope, but the women-friendly work environment is decreasing, which is disappointing. Women engineers are also working in mega projects like Padma Bridge. Women engineers should be given priority in building a smart Bangladesh of the future. Many women engineers demanded the opening of a women’s chapter in the Engineers Institution, an engineering professional body. Later, President and General Secretary of IEB assured to open women’s chapter in IEB very soon as per constitutional rules.
Moushumi Salmin, Executive Engineer of LGED delivered her welcome speech organized by Engineer Sheikh Tajul Islam Tuhin, Convenor of The Engineers Foundation and Assistant General Secretary of IEB.
Afroza Begum, the Chairperson of the Women Engineers Summit and the supervisor of the Department of Education and Engineering presided over the Summit. The summit was moderated by MIST’s Associate PProfessor Dr. Engineer Shamima Akhter and Roads and Highways Executive Engineer Asfia Sultana.
Besides, Engineer Sharmina Zaman, Engineer Shahana Ferdous Beethi, Engineer Shamima Kabir, Dr. Rozi Siddiqui, Sonia Naureen and others were present.
At the outset of the summit, a rally took off from Ramna, passed through the Press Club and ended at the Engineers Institution. Finally, the summit was concluded with cutting cake and holding a cultural program
Since 2017, UNESCO has been celebrating International Women Engineers Day on June 23.
