Voting is going on in Barisal and Khulna City Corporation elections to choose new public representatives. Members of the Election Commission are sitting in the temporary control room set up in the Election Commission auditorium of Agargaon, Dhaka, keeping an eye on the CCTV cameras to catch irregularities including obstruction of voting.
Monitoring of two city elections is being done simultaneously for the first time through CC cameras from 8 am on Monday. Apart from this, Cox’s Bazar Municipal election is also being monitored through CCTV cameras.
Polling for Khulna and Barisal City Corporation has started from 8 am. Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal, Election Commissioner Brigadier General retired Ahsan Habib Khan, Election Commissioner Md. Alamgir, Election Commissioner Rasheda Sultana is monitoring the election from the control room.
Voting in these two cities with around eight lakh voters is underway at 415 polling stations in Electronic Voting Machines (EVM), which will continue till 4 pm.
Assistant Director (Public Relations) of the Election Commission. Ashadul Haque said that the commission is directly monitoring the polling of the Khulna and Barisal City Corporation elections from the CCTV monitoring control room installed at the basement of the Election Building.
Meanwhile, the presiding officer Shahjahan said that due to the EVM malfunction in the Araihazar municipal elections in the district near Dhaka, the speed of voting was slow. He told the media that initially there was no problem with the machine. The machine may not be working properly due to overheating. We are trying to reduce the suffering of the people and hold the polls early.
Dilsad Jahan, the Executive Magistrate in charge at the center, said that the EVM machine hangs many times. Sometimes there is no network. Due to which there is sometimes some delay in polling. We are trying to reduce the suffering of people to vote.
