The robot ‘UIU Mars Rover’ created by the students of United International University (UIU) in Bangladesh won the first place among Asian teams in the US robot competition. With this, UIU won the first place among the Asian teams for the second time.
A total of 37 teams from around the world participated in the University Rover Challenge (URC) 2023 organized by the Mars Society. Among them, the team from UIU stood 9th.
The URC is a globally recognized robotics competition, held annually in Southern Utah, USA. The contest is organized by the US-based non-profit Mars Society.
Teams of students who wish to participate in the competition are asked to create a design suitable for the next generation Mars Rover. So that these robots later play a positive role in the journey to Mars.
The final round of the University Rover Challenge-2023 was held in Hanksville, Utah, USA from May 31 to June 3. Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology-BUET’s ‘Interplanetary’ team and United International University’s ‘UIU Mars Rover’ team participated there.
A team from the West Virginia University of the United States won the final 37-team championship with 425.35 points. A team from Australia’s Monash University came second with 354.83 points.
And with 344.09 points, a team from Bringham Young University of the United States came third. Bangladesh’s ‘UIU Mars Rover’ has secured 9th place in the world among 37 teams with 273.59 points.
