Canada has several major pipelines for exporting crude oil to the global stage. Multinational energy companies Exxon Mobil and Royal Dutch Shell have large-scale operations here.
However, Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand said that cyber attacks on critical infrastructure, including this pipeline, have increased recently.
During an interview at the Asian Security Summit organized in Singapore, Anand said, “The amount of cyber attacks in North America has increased significantly.” However, she did not comment on which country was involved in the attack.
Anita Anand said, ‘Cyberattack on the important infrastructure of the country has come to our attention. To solve this problem, various organizations and companies in Canada are informed to take preventive measures with awareness.
In a warning last month, the US Department of the Interior said that China could launch a cyberattack at any time on important sectors, including oil, gas and rail communications. Before this, the researchers found out that Chinese hacking groups have been monitoring such infrastructures for a long time.
