Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged Sweden to invest more in Bangladesh. She said, ‘We want more investment from Sweden in the ICT sector and in Special Economic Zones in Bangladesh.’
She made the call to the Swedish delegation led by the CEO and President of Swedish clothing company H&M Helena Helmerson when they came to pay a courtesy call on the Prime Minister at Ganobhaban on Tuesday (May 30). Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim informed the matter to the media after the meeting.
Sheikh Hasina said that the government wants to further expand the export basket by diversifying the export products. Bangladesh has its own economic policies and plans to provide employment, poverty alleviation, food security and healthcare.
Referring to the steps taken to deal with climate change, he said that the government is efficiently dealing with the effects of climate change. The government is very aware of the impact of climate change and is working on it. We are working on our own financing to reduce the impact of climate change. Government is working with highest priority to ensure women’s empowerment and gender equality.
The Prime Minister appreciated the Swedish action of not canceling any purchase order from Bangladesh during the bad times amid the COVID19 pandemic despite the outbreak of the coronavirus worldwide.
Meanwhile, H&M CEO Helena Helmerson said that they have a special relationship with Bangladesh. We have been doing business with Bangladesh for three decades. We want to take business with Bangladesh further.
Helena Helmerson praised the Prime Minister’s leadership for the significant socio-economic development of Bangladesh and for successfully ensuring the country’s progress by controlling the pandemic situation.
At this time, the Prime Minister’s private industry and investment advisor Salman Fazlur Rahman, Chief Secretary of the Prime Minister Md. Tofazzal Hossain Miah, Swedish Ambassador to Dhaka Alexandra Berg von Lind and Chief Financial Officer of Sweden’s world famous company H&M Adam Carlson were present.
