19 thousand 623 complaints have not been settled even though they have complained to the National Directorate of Consumer Protection. Of these, 16,204 were against evaly, Alesha Mart, e-Orange, Dhamaka Shopping and Qcoom. Among them, the most complaints are against evaly.
As a result, the cheated customers are in doubt about the 600 crore taka owed to 50 e-commerce companies. Because, apart from evaly and Qcoom, the rest of the companies have no activities at present.
A maximum of 10 thousand 978 complaints have been filed against evaly, 6 thousand 17 complaints against E-Orange, 2 thousand 257 complaints against Alesha Mart and 618 complaints against Dhamaka Shopping till February this year. According to the latest information, so far complaints of only 1 crore taka have been settled from Alesha Mart.
However, the High Court-constituted evaly Board could not do anything about redressal of consumer complaints. Tapas Kanti Baul, a lawyer of the Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection, said that the owners of E-Orange, Dhamaka Shopping, RingID and Dalal Plus have already left Bangladesh.
AHM Shafikuzzaman, director general of the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate, said that many e-commerce companies have left the country, so complaints are taking longer to settle. Apart from this, some companies have taken the matter to court. Until the court gives its verdict, the consumer department cannot do anything.
Still, 51 thousand 567 customers of 13 e-commerce companies are getting refund of 365 crore 3 lakh 2 thousand 330 Taka. Out of this, 42 thousand 630 customers of QCoom received a maximum refund of Tk. 299 crore 51 lakh 28 thousand 602.
