The Team Bangladesh consists of six members has been announced on Saturday to represent Bangladesh in the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO).
This Olympiad has been organized regularly since 2015. This is the seventh consecutive year of this arrangement. The event started online amid the Corona pandemic last July. After a long campaign, through online regional episodes, national episodes and camps, 6 students from all over the country have been selected.
This year’s 7-member IJSO Bangladesh team includes SM Abdul Fattah (Class 9) of Khulna Zilla School, Muhtasin Al Qafi of Barisal Cadet College (SSC ’21), Amlan Dey Abhik of Mymensingh Zilla School (SSC ’21), Abdur Rahman (9th) of Akij Foundation School and College and Kazi Nadid Hossain (9th) and Swadhin Roy Sunny (SSC ’21) of Khulna Zilla School. They will participate from Bangladesh in the 18th International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) at Abu Dhabi in December.
Professor Dr. Farsim Mannan Mohammadi of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) will lead the IJSO Bangladesh team. The assistant team leaders are Omar Farooq, a student of Dhaka University and Abidur Rahman, a student of Sir Salimullah Medical College. volunteers of Bangladesh Science Popularization Association.
Mahmud Meem, the Program Coordinator of Bangladesh Science Popularization Association and Gautam Pal, a student of Dhaka University will join the team as observers. Morsheda Akhter Meem, a student of Dhaka University and Rezaul Islam, a student of Green University will function as the supervisors of the team.
Bangladesh Science Popularization Association will organize several camps for the preparation of Bangladesh IJSO team in the next 3 months. Along with this, training in practical science will also be arranged at Maksudul Alam Science Lab (MASLab).
This year, more than 13,000 students from class III to XII have registered online to participate in BDJSO-2021. Students from 438 Upazilas of 64 Districts of the country participated in this Olympiad. Due to the COVID-19, this year’s Olympiad has been held completely online.
BDJSO-2021 is being jointly organized by Bangladesh Science Popularization Society and Bangladesh Freedom Foundation. Al-Arafah Islamic Bank is sponsoring the program.
