A secret Bitcoin document is alleged to keep hidden inside every modern Mac device. Since 2018, a copy of a document called the ‘Bitcoin Whitepaper’ has been hidden on PCs updated to new versions of the ‘MacOS’ operating system.
Blogger and technologist Andy Baio is making such a claim. He got hints of its existence a year ago. And the engineers who added it haven’t even updated it since.
According to the British newspaper The Independent, anyone can open it by looking for a device known as ‘Virtual Scanner 2’ among various files. The document is probably included as a sample file for that functionality. The paper suggests that it may also be a useful, concise document to use as an example.
According to Baio’s research, the document not only details the operation of the cryptocurrency, but also explains in detail the thinking behind why it was created in the first place. As a result, it has become an important document for those who campaign for Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general. And that’s probably why it’s secretly added to the software. Perhaps, an engineer working with macOS did this.
The data says the file has been in the software for five years, but has rarely been discussed online. However, Apple did not provide any information about how the file was added to MacOS.
Officially, Apple has largely distanced itself from cryptocurrencies. Even after its introduction into various conventional financial services like payments and lending.
In 2021, the company’s CEO Tim Cook said that Apple was ‘looking into’ the issue of cryptocurrency. And he also told about his personal investment in it. However, he added, the company has “no immediate plans” to enter the system.
